10.6 System Memory Model
Most communication between software and an SATA device is through the HBA via system memory
descriptors.
These descriptors indicate the status of all received and sent FISes, as well as pointers for data
transfers.
Additional communication is done via registers contained within the HBA:
Registers for each supported port
Global control
Generic host control can be seen in Figure 10.8 and includes global host control that is applied to
the entire HBA.
