Chapter 11: Textiles

The word textile can refer to any pliable material made of interlacing filaments, fibers, or yarns. Fabric and fiber are two very different things. Designers cannot simply say that they will be creating a silk dress. By silk, do they mean satin? Brocade? Jacquard? Taffeta? Organza? Chiffon? Crepe de Chine? Velvet? The list could go on, because silk can be woven in any number of ways into any number of fabrics.
