Whatever investment approach you follow, you and/or your adviser will need to use investment funds to gain access to the various investment asset classes. Investment funds provide effective diversification as your capital is pooled with that of other investors to gain exposure to the underlying investment holdings. In the UK, investment funds are either regulated or unregulated.
Unregulated funds, now known as ‘non-mainstream pooled investments’ (NMPI), may not be promoted to the general public in the UK, but can be proposed to certain limited categories of investors, including:
