other people off and possibly get in the way of professional
advancement. I decided to speak directly about her voice with
her. “Maybe no one else has told you, but you have one of the
most irritating voices I’ve ever heard. You have so many
accomplishments and credentials behind you, but somewhere
ahead of you is an opportunity that you won’t get because of
your voice. I’m telling you this not to be unkind, but because
you can do something about it if you want to.”
