Mitigation and Remediation
8.1 General
If nuclear power is to grow on the scale required to replace alternate
energy sources, major steps are needed to rebuild confi dence in users
showing that nuclear facilities will be safe from accidents and secure
against attacks (Bunn and Heinonen 2011). Operators and regulators
world-wide are now reviewing their nuclear safety measures and
responding to heightened public concerns. Government’s conclusions
have ranged from China’s plan to continue its massive nuclear effort
