I used a consistent approach for all of the interviews:

  • I reached out, usually via email, to each interviewee to request permission to conduct an interview for my book.
  • I emphasized that all interviews were “off-the-record.” Permission from the interviewee and his or her company was required in order to publish content in this book.
  • Interviewees were asked the same set of questions during the initial interview:

    a. Please introduce yourself (to learn more about the interviewee’s role and remit, background, and so on).

    b. What does sustainability mean to your company—definition, business case, connection with corporate and competitive strategy?

    c. Has sustainability evolved into a dimension of competitive strategy between ...
