What Do You Do if You Can’t Sell All of Your Items?

Here are some other possible options for disposing of things you couldn’t sell at your garage sale. I mentioned using a private trash-hauling company to come to your home and remove any remaining items and I even talked about taking your items to secondhand stores to see if they could resell any of your unsold items, giving you a portion of the proceeds. What I didn’t mention was using charities to take those leftover items. The benefit of donating your unsold items to a charitable organization comes in the form of potential tax write-offs. Of course, please consult with your personal tax professional to get an exact idea of what you can or cannot deduct from any charitable donation. By donating items to charity, not only will you be helping others in need, you will be helping yourself as well.
