Another technique that is gaining popularity is precision cooling
including open and closed systems using water or other liquid refrigerants.
The idea in precision cooling is to cool as close to the heat source as possi-
ble to maximize cooling efficiency. By maximizing cooling efficiency, more
heat can be removed using the same or less energy. For example, open cool-
ing systems provide heat removable on a broader basis across multiple cab-
inets or racks in a cost-effective manor. However, open cooling systems are
coarse in that large amounts of air are required to cool the heat source.
Closed cooling systems can be implemented inside a cabinet, directing
