nomenclature, generally have a processor, memory, internal busses or com-
munication chips, and I/O ports for communicating with the outside world
via networks or storage devices.
The specific components and number of components vary according to
the type of server, but all servers usually have one of more of the following:
One or more central processing units (CPUs), also known as pro-
cessors
Some amount of main random-access memory (RAM) or read-
only memory (ROM)
Internal communication busses and circuitry
Basic Input/Output System (BIOS) and/or a management con-
sole subsystem
Attachment points for keyboards, video, and monitors
I/O connectivity for attaching peripherals such as networks and
storage
