11Cranes, jibs, arms, dollies, and heads

This chapter provides descriptions of and specifications for the cranes, jibs, and arms used in the industry. Cranes, jibs, and arms can be set lower or higher, depending on which base, dolly, tripod, or other crane they are being used with.

Some of these cranes, jibs, and arms may look short, but they may be the type that have kits or extensions to lengthen their reach or to change from remote operation to carrying a cameraperson or assistant. The manufacturers’ specs shown in their brochures indicate their recommended dollies, bases, or tripods. Please call the manufacturer or supplier if you have any questions about a crane, jib, or arm.

  • Remember: read the manufacturer’s specifications carefully!
