Thru-Tubing Milling

Abstract

As recently as the early 1990s, coiled tubing milling was considered a high-risk operation that often left broken and stuck tools in the hole. Poor job planning, unreliable motor performance, and inexperienced personnel contributed to the failure rate, and tools in the milling bottom-hole assembly (BHA) often failed to withstand torque and vibration stresses from the motor.
