8Audio Interfaces

IF YOU HAVEN’T ALREADY GATHERED after reading the previous chapter, when it comes to guitars and your computer, software is part of the equation. You have to be able to plug your guitar into the computer. To do that, you need an audio interface that will convert the guitar’s analog signal to digital so your computer can do its thing. At the same time, it is the interface that you’ll plug into—er, out of—to hear all the DSP goodness your Line 6 software of choice is cooking up. Be it headphones, a line level out to studio monitors, or another recording environment, the interface will convert your processed signal back from digital to audio.
