Acknowledgments

The idea for this book began with a call from our agent, Jill Marsal. She had read our HBR article, “Are You a High Potential?” and asked if we had considered writing a book on the topic. We hadn’t. Her call, however, inspired us to start writing. So first and foremost, we’d like to thank Jill for her foresight and encouragement. Jay would also like to thank his colleagues Doug Ready and Linda Hill for the research and writing partnership that produced the HBR article, which in turn laid the groundwork for this book. Jay is especially grateful to Doug for their many years of researching and writing together to address pressing talent issues facing organizations. It has been a rewarding partnership and friendship.
