Multicast
Abstract
In this chapter, you will learn how multicast routing protocols allow multicast traffic to make its way from a source to interested receivers through a router-based network. We’ll look at both dense and parse multicast routing protocols, as well as some of the other protocols used with them (such as IGMP).
You will learn how the PIM rendezvous point (RP) has become the key component in a multicast network. We’ll see how to configure an RP on the network and use it to deliver a simple multicast traffic stream to hosts. We’ll also see why multicast is not as common as people thought it might be.
