What Are We Trying to Accomplish?

Determine the optimum speeds and feeds for drilling carbon steel tube sheets. A new machine was purchased in 2005 and was drilling three times faster than existing drills. Tooling was new and experiments were run to establish operating parameters. Because it was a new machine, operators were very careful with it. The new machine was producing the same output as three other drills and resulted in work patterns for the operators.
