Agronomics of international cocoa production
Abstract:
The classification of the main cocoa varieties is described, together with the main elements of the cocoa tree and the ideal climatic and soil requirements for cocoa production. The different methods involved in nurseries and planting out of trees, including intercropping and nutrient requirements, are outlined. The main pests and diseases affecting cocoa are described, together with remedial action in the event of their occurrence. Concluding the chapter are the requirements of harvesting and the post-harvest processes of pod-storage, fermentation and drying.
