Dock Connector port
On the bottom of the Dock-connector iPod, you’ll fi nd
a proprietary port that handles both power and data
chores for the device. This port, on the bottom of the
3G iPods and all click-wheel iPods save the iPod nano
and the 5G iPod, supports data transfer via both
FireWire and USB 2.0 (Figure 2.8 and Figure 2.9). The
nano and 5G iPod can be charged via FireWire but
sync only over USB (Figure 2.10).

Ports and connectors: iPod shuffl e
The iPod shuffl e has exactly one hole: the
Headphone port (Figure 2.11). On the original iPod
shuffl e, this port was exactly what its name implies:
a place to plug in your earbuds or other headphones.
