world’s greatest portable music player (and a pretty
fair video player too!). But take a quick scroll through
the Extras screen of any display-bearing iPod, and
you’ll get the idea that the iPod is more than a music
player. Here, you’ll fi nd the Contacts, Calendar, and
Notes entries, which hint that your iPod is ready to
offer up a phone number, remind you of an upcom-
ing appointment, or recall your Aunt Vilma’s recipe
for Swedish meatballs. Though no substitute for a
Palm device (or many of today’s mobile phones), the
iPod can perform a reasonably convincing impression
of a personal information manager. In these pages,
