The morning started out with a cool breeze in the air. Five thousand people—mostly women—gathered at the Susan G. Komen “More Than Pink” Walk and Race for the Cure event site in 2022. The massive outdoor event returned after a hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic, which, depending on the location, effectively shut down most if not all in-person events. For many cities, this was their first race since 2019. Participants donned pink and white, some as survivors, some in treatment, and some to honor those who suffered or lost their battle with breast cancer.
