Cities, regions, and countries have always used narratives to harness the power of pull—drawing their own people closer together, attracting value-adding people from other parts of the world, and inspiring others who cannot make the journey but can help it in other ways. People visit Las Vegas for the freewheeling fun that they might prefer will “stay in Vegas,” and people have supported the nation of Israel for its religious and cultural heritage.
