MANAGING CONFLICT AND HANDLING CONTROVERSY

Throughout this book, we’ve discussed the key traits, behaviors, attitudes, and actions that contribute to great leadership. We’ve also touched on obstacles you’ll encounter in any leadership role and how to overcome them. In this final chapter, we go a step further to explicitly cover two challenges that every contemporary leader needs to be prepared for: managing conflict and handling controversy. Both require leaders’ willingness to be accountable in difficult situations, even if they aren’t the ones to blame. Accountability lies at the heart of leadership, not only delivering on the results you signed up for, but also taking ownership when things go wrong.
