When you look at your job you can probably clearly see those areas of it over which you have control. But it’s harder to identify the areas over which you have influence. It is likely that the difference between the two is that where we have control people are less likely to be involved and where we perceive influence the ‘people factor’ is likely to be paramount.

Influencing is a state of mind. Take two people doing the same or similar jobs (perhaps one of them could be you?). Their perception of the level of influence they have may be very different.
