The day before the trial was scheduled to begin, the defense team sent to Steve a PowerPoint that Mr. Kanev proposed to use during his opening statement. It was an animated presentation showing the moving of files called badstuff from Alexey Ivanov’s home account (subbsta) on an unidentified computer, to Gorshkov’s account (kvakin) on the same computer. Steve was aware of no evidence that would support such a reshuffling of files. Alexey was in jail in Connecticut, and there was no way that his lawyer would agree to have him brought to Seattle to testify in Gorshkov’s defense.
