Career planning is the process of deciding what people want to
do in the future. A subset of life planning, which includes aspects of
one’s personal life, it centers on selecting an occupation or profes-
sion, seeking a job, gaining more responsibility, and potentially
changing occupations or fields of interest. At present, workers
between the ages of 18 and 38 change careers, jobs, or employers an
average of 10 times.
A 2006 study of 7,000 employers in Australia found that 51 per-
