Development coaching is similar. But its focus is a little differ-
ent. Use these steps, depicted in Exhibit 7–3 and described below:
Step 1: Explain to the worker an activity or a result that is impor-
tant at a higher level of responsibility—and why it is important.
Step 2: Take the time to show the worker how to do it—or else
explain it in detail. Use an example from the work, if possible.
Step 3: Offer specific advice on what the worker should do based
on your own experience, if possible.
Step 4: Ask the worker to try it while you observe.
Step 5: Watch the worker do it.
Step 6:
