THE THREE TYPES OF TEAMS

The three types of teams that we will address in this guide, and their definitions and purpose, are presented below.

TERM DEFINITION PURPOSE

AD HOC

A group of people working together toward a specific business goal or objective. The team may consist of functional or cross-functional membership. Members usually serve on the team in addition to their normal job duties. It is a temporary team that always disbands once the goal (or set of goals) has been reached.

To solve a specific problem or resolve a specific issue

STANDING

A group of people who meet periodically to work on a recurring or critical business purpose or issue. This is usually a team that does not disband because of the nature of the issue (safety, ...
