How to Be an Excellent Internal Consultant

An excellent internal consultant is not only a quick learner, but also a quick unlearner and relearner. Let me explain what I mean by these terms.

Learner. A learner synthesizes knowledge, information, and experience into useful advice and action.

Unlearner. An unlearner is willing to let go of old information, outdated assumptions, and lessons from past successes. What worked in the past worked in the past. Every stock prospectus has this statement: “Past performance does not guarantee future results.” Unfortunately, many people simply repeat what they did before. That’s like driving a car by looking in the rearview mirror.
