Trying to gain support for your AP automation projects can seem like a long, uphill journey. One reason that controllers have trouble getting support for automation initiatives is that the C-suite often sees finance operations as a back-office function. The perception is that any money spent on back-office infrastructure takes away from money that could be spent on initiatives to help generate revenue for the company.
Another reason management is resistant, ironically, is that finance always gets the job done—even without automation. If no one is complaining about the efficiency of the back-office functions—and the senior managers are getting the financial reports they need each month—they believe that nothing needs changing.
