Nielsen-Kellerman Company is very small. Its entire engineering sta
consists of three people, led by their Engineering Manager, Michael
Naughton. When I met Michael at the 2009 Lean Product & Process
Development Exchange (LPPDE), he was new to Lean inking. His com-
pany had just embarked on its Lean journey, and Michael didn’t know
what that would mean for him and his team. I had the privilege of watch-
ing Michael and his team over the next three years as they sought to incor-
