Metabolic syndrome is a cluster of factors associated with increased risk for cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes mellitus. Given the syndrome’s increasing prevalence worldwide, it has become a public health issue. Population-based strategies should be implemented to reduce the global burden of cardiometabolic diseases.
