In this chapter, we will create a basic BOOM-based dashboard. This project is illustrative of what can be done using the BOOM point of view. It also provides exposure to the Shiny framework. The expectation is that you would use the fantastic set of open source solutions in R and Shiny to make dashboards for your bespoke needs. Thus, this chapter is intended as a jumping-off point for learning – not a destination. Note that with this chapter's code, there is a .csv file for you to use as well. As always, look to www.themetricsmanifesto.com for frequent updates as well as the specific files for this chapter.
A key feature of this dashboard is KPI measurement. The method of measuring KPIs may be new to most readers. It uses baseline rates over time. That means KPI achievement is based on long-run data. Thus, when a KPI is achieved, we can have more confidence in our capability. There will be a whole section dedicated to the code behind this measurement.
