The simplest way to get a discount or a better deal on anything is...drum roll please...ask. It sounds so simple, but most people don't.
I'm not saying you should ask for a discount on a cup of coffee at Starbucks, but if you're making a major purchase, or are a regular customer, don't be afraid to ask for a discount—or at least see if you can get a few extras thrown in.
Recently, I bought a new suitcase. I checked various sources, and the price was roughly the same everywhere. I asked for a discount, but the sales assistant said the price was fixed. However, he included an extra smaller bag as a bonus. So just by asking, I got something extra. Even if you don't personally want an extra item, you can always sell it or give it as a gift.
Saving money, just like making money, is about being open and on the lookout for opportunities. Ask politely, with confidence, and a smile. You'll be amazed at the discounts you can receive.
