When I thought about the expectations for this book, I wanted to make sure I was as concise as I could be at the risk of being too simplistic, and what I came up with is this: The information we obtain from eyewitness interviews should be treated like cognitive evidence. Since 1999, the institutions overseeing the justice system have been encouraging local law enforcement agencies to take a look at their research and consider changing their ways (Figure 20.1).
