When I read the introduction to the characters of the story in Thinking Fast and Slow (Kahneman, 2011), it reminded me of the intuitive impulse officers have in recognizing danger as they take preventative steps to ensure their safety and the safety of others. Kahneman described these characters as being agents of a system that helps us make decisions. Kahneman defined these systems as follows (Kahneman, 2011, pp. 20–21):

  • System 1 operates automatically and quickly, with little or no effort and no sense of voluntary control.
