Abstract

This chapter strips away some of the misunderstandings inherent in the ambiguity and evolution of commonly used terms in IT and systems organization within libraries so that we can begin a discussion of what library systems really are and what can be done with them. When building a cohesive library system, a consensus in defining these roles is necessary for ease of continuation of duties, division of work among specifically skilled librarian and IT staff, and upward mobility of employees.
