The vast majority of people think CV writing is easy. In fact, the belief that it is possible to ‘knock up a CV in a couple of hours’ is not uncommon. Traditionally most people write CVs themselves and, having examined thousands of DIY CVs over the years, I know that many people actually spend less than two or three hours on their CV.

This would be all well and good if it were a level playing field, and everyone played by the same two- or three-hour rule. However, some people are cannier than others, and while you might spend no more than three hours working on your CV, some of your competitors will spend eight hours working ...
