Managing digital material is becoming more important for libraries as they both acquire and create digital information. Libraries are working in collaboration with others to digitize all of the world’s digital content. This is a scattered process with overlapping partnerships and no agreement about standards for e-books and other content. As libraries struggle with decisions about e-books and digitization, they are using metadata to create the architecture for information to be preserved for future use, while providing functionality in meeting users’ needs.
