Data repositories, open source and the library

Abstract:

Libraries are assuming new roles as publishers and managers of institutional and data repositories. Publishers have different requirements for authors wishing to deposit in institutional repositories, and some are charging author fees before articles are published and/or deposited. Libraries are also publishing e-books and e-journals, sometimes independently of any publisher and sometimes working with publishers that also offer print-on-demand services. Standard numbers like ISBNs, ISSNs, EISSNs and DOIs are important for identifying unique items. Creative Commons Licenses and General Public Licenses are useful for managing access and usage of publicly available resources.
