3.   Defectors

 

The employees I call Defectors are low-engagement/high-performance personnel who are mostly just biding their time until they can leave you. Defectors are highly productive, but for one reason or another, they just can't seem to engage with their work. A variety of factors may cause or contribute to their lack of engagement:

boredom, contempt for authority, and arrogance, for example. Maybe they're dealing with personal issues that inhibit engagement; they may dislike the company or their coworkers; they may resent authority; or they could simply be bored out of their skulls.
