Profits top £1m

In 1966 group profits topped £1m for the first time (the equivalent of £16.6m today). The achievements of Buchan and Westphal, both in their mid-40s, were gaining wider attention. A four-page feature by W. G. Norris in the June 1967 issue of the Institute of Director’s (IoD) The Director magazine profiled the pair, noting their success in internationalising the business and broadening its UK operations.
