Detection is the main focus of Rentokil’s experiments with ultrasound at the moment. Yet, as in the 1970s, there is also some investigation into its use as a repellent and even as a means of encouraging pests to approach.
Research is being carried out into whether domesticated mice have the same language as wild mice, and whether wild mice in one region have the same language as mice living somewhere else. It may be that mice in Yorkshire differ in how they communicate from those found in Cornwall, and that Italian field mice squeak a different language to those from Sweden. Recordings captured using specialist equipment are being analysed in the search for answers.
