What Is a DSP?

Some companies do not require you to buy your first share from a stockbroker. You can actually start buying shares directly from the company. This type of plan is called a direct stock purchase (DSP) plan, and about 570 corporations offer this option today.
The big difference with DSPs is that you don’t have to find a way to buy the first share before you can start buying stock directly with a company. Otherwise the plans work in a similar way to DRIPs. We talk more about how to get started with DSPs in Chapter 3.
