014 Collage and Assemblage

The construction of pictures from disparate elements, often printed matter or photographs, is known as “collage.” In sculpture, the same approach is known as “assemblage.”

• Images from disparate sources can be combined to create disjointed and challenging juxtapositions.

• Decorative formations can be made, in which elements are arranged into patterns.

• Photographs and photographic fragments can be combined to create an entirely new scene, an approach known as “photomontage.”
