033 Fantasy and Visionary Art

In fantasy art, the artist renders a credible and coherent image of a world that does not exist. Visionary art is a subgenre of fantasy art in which the artist creates images that purport to show divine revelation or apocalyptic scenarios that may have a religious dimension.

Anthropomorphism. Animals and objects take on human characteristics.

Otherworldly settings. Fantasy worlds often feature heightened color, unnatural lighting, and flora and fauna unknown on Earth.

Improbable or impossible happenings. Gravity may be suspended; humans and objects may behave or respond in unnatural ways.

Recombination. Features or denizens of the natural world may be recombined. Fairies, for instance, are miniature humans ...
