This volume brings together much of my writing on psychoanalysis published during the past two decades as well as some new work.

Although the chapters that follow cover a variety of topics, many are linked by an issue with which I have long been concerned: the role played in analysis by the unconscious transactions between patient and analyst that continually flow beneath the surface of the analytic dialogue.
