Abstract

Power converters have been extensively studied and implemented for small-scale applications. The advent of devices that are able to handle ever-higher voltages and power are enabling technologies that will transform the power grid as we know it today. Today’s grid largely comprises passive devices that cannot be as readily controlled, monitored, and reconfigured. The advances in grid power conversion will provide agility and robustness, allowing the grid to readily integrate renewable sources of energy such as wind and solar photovoltaics.
