Light Direction
No matter whether diffused or specular, when light has direction, it changes how it affects color as the direction varies. Light direction is always important even when the direction is weak as in a very cloudy day. Bright sunlight gives drama and strong direction. Diffused light weakens the direction of the light, but it can still affect how you photograph a subject.
Light can come from all directions around a subject: front, side, top, back, bottom. This alone is a good reason to check out a subject from multiple sides, just to see what the light is doing.
