Chapter 8 Serious Games

Introduction

Serious games are designed for primary purposes other than pure entertainment. The idea shares aspects with simulation in general, but explicitly adds elements of fun and competition. This chapter reviews three serious games in detail in terms of development, deployment, and impacts. These games include applications addressing impacts of the Affordable Care Act on the New York City health ecosystem, economic impacts of alternative futures on research universities, and impacts of Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) and Autonomous Vehicles (AVs) on the automobile and insurance industries.
