MCDONALD’S Shamrock Shake Returns to Mark the First Green of Spring” read the headline of a 2021 press release.1 Each year, much anticipation builds as customers await the limited-time release of the green milkshake from McDonald’s that has become a cult classic and represents the “greening of spring.” A menu item that was conceived in 1967 by Connecticut McDonald’s owner and operator Hal Rosen to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day has become a global sensation and was also used in part to fund the first Ronald McDonald House in 1974.
