26 Sometimes Choose to Get in Over Your Head to Get Ahead
An old strategy for teaching others how to swim was simply to throw them in deep water, over their heads, with little or no instruction. In the process of struggling to keep their heads above water, it was expected that they would manage to figure out how to swim on their own. While this “sink or swim” approach is not widely embraced today, some wisdom can be gleaned from it. Just as muscles will not get stronger and grow unless exerted beyond their relaxed comfort level, we will not grow as people unless we are challenged. And sometimes this challenge can best be created by “getting in over our heads.”
